Silent But Deadly: Hailey Brooks Is Quietly Owning the Vegas Comedy Scene

Hailey Brooks, Dave Burlin, Tawni Nguyen Season 2 Episode 12

"Vegas has allowed me to rebuild myself twice. It's the city where you can always reinvent who you are."

In this episode of Pursue Vegas, we sit down with comedian, content creator, and creative shapeshifter Hailey Brooks to talk about comedy, character work, and carving your own lane in a city that thrives on reinvention.

Originally from Philly, Hailey came to Vegas in 2016—and like many of us—she didn't arrive with a roadmap. She started in journalism, dabbled in immersive theater as the Mad Hatter, and eventually found her voice in stand-up comedy. Her show Silent But Deadly at Area 15 is unlike anything you’ve ever seen: imagine silent disco meets stand-up set.

"The silent disco comedy blends seeing real reactions. It’s an immersive comedic experience that others should try."

We talk about how Vegas gives creatives the space (and weirdness) to evolve, how she became a viral Vegas tourism character, and what it’s like building a comedy career in a town that isn’t exactly known for traditional stand-up circuits.

"On stage, I realized I could make people laugh with my own jokes, setting me on a path to stand-up comedy."

We also explore the gender dynamics of being a woman in comedy, how content creators are reshaping the Strip’s brand, and why live events are making a big comeback post-pandemic.

"You can't be serious in Vegas. It's all about evolutionary creativity."

If you’ve ever wanted to laugh, cry, or wildly pivot your life into something that feels more you, this conversation is your permission slip.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hailey’s journey is proof that reinvention is a Vegas specialty.
  • Immersive comedy is more than a gimmick—it’s the next wave.
  • Women in comedy face real challenges, but also bring unmatched perspective.
  • Vegas gives you the freedom to try on new identities and make them stick.
  • Content creation and comedy are blending in powerful ways in 2024.

0:00:00 - (Hailey Brooks): I'm Hailey Brooks, and this is the Pursue Vegas podcast.

0:00:06 - (Dave Burlin): The idea of Pursue Vegas was to really highlight the local people that really make Vegas Vegas.

0:00:12 - (Tawni Nguyen): I love that aspect of how these visionaries are actually bringing people together.

0:00:17 - (Dave Burlin): When we hit record, our responsibility is to connect the people of our city so we can show the world who we really are. Welcome back to the Pursuit Vegas podcast. I'm your host, Dave Berlin.

0:00:27 - (Tawni Nguyen): And I'm your co host, Tawni Nguyen.

0:00:29 - (Dave Burlin): And. And I don't even know if excited is the right word. Cause I always say we're excited, but.

0:00:36 - (Tawni Nguyen): On the moons in the stars.

0:00:38 - (Dave Burlin): On the moons in the stars. We are on a different galaxy level today because this doesn't happen a lot. But I just met the incredible Hailey Brooks.

0:00:48 - (Hailey Brooks): Wow.

0:00:49 - (Dave Burlin): Today.

0:00:49 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, my God.

0:00:50 - (Dave Burlin): Today, Hello. I don't want to be just another one of those dudes on the roster that's just scrolling your stuff all the time, but I saw one of your reels two years ago, and it's like, hi, welcome to Vegas. And it was just immaculate.

0:01:06 - (Hailey Brooks): My Vegas tourism character. Thanks.

0:01:09 - (Dave Burlin): So good.

0:01:10 - (Hailey Brooks): I have to say this, like, this.

0:01:12 - (Tawni Nguyen): Would be the reason I go back on.

0:01:13 - (Dave Burlin): Oh, I sent it to you.

0:01:14 - (Hailey Brooks): Yes. So I used to do it on TikTok. That character blew up on TikTok. And so I'd be like, hi, welcome to Vegas. And then I would just give tourists instructions on things of what to do in Vegas. But like, from like, a true local's perspective, like, they're like, looking for drugs. I'm like, oh, go on the pedestrian bridges. Or like, things like that.

0:01:32 - (Dave Burlin): Like, where's the Dre ass nightclub?

0:01:35 - (Hailey Brooks): Because it was true. I used to be a party host on the Strip. So they were all based off of, like, true, like, encounters that I actually had on the Strip and things that people would say. And I'm like, some of the questions, man. Like, even before. So before. But before 2016, before sports, the amount of people that would ask me what hotel I live in on the Strip was astounding. Well, normally I live in the tunnels. That's what I saw. And go to. Like, I'm one of the. I'm. Yeah, I'm a tunnel person.

0:02:02 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. No, some people literally would be like, what, do you fly in from LA every week? Like, what? Like, they couldn't conceptualize, like, people living here.

0:02:10 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah. I always throw. I throw people off. I'm like, it's not like that. I live in the Cosmo. It's fine.

0:02:15 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. Then I do have, like, some bougie friends that live, like, what's the one next to. Yeah, it's like, well, there are some people that live.

0:02:24 - (Dave Burlin): Like, I met somebody that lived there. Like, we went. We watched the. The Tropicana being blown up from there. Yeah. But can you imagine what. The community room. I've never been to that place. And I were. I'm not gonna say that we were on psychedelics, but very, very implied. But it was like, there was like one guy and his story just didn't add up. Right. He was like, oh, yeah. I was like, what do you do? And he said, I run this car company.

0:02:54 - (Dave Burlin): I was like, you run a car company? Okay. Like, what kind of car company? Oh, we teach kids how to drive. I'm like, that doesn't seem like a driver's ed thing. Yeah. And I was like, oh, cool. Do you have like a whole fleet of vehicles? And he's like, no, we got like three. We got like three cars. And then I'm like, there's no way you can live in Vere Tower. And that's all you do. And then. Unless he's billionaires, don't ask me why I did this. It was just.

0:03:19 - (Dave Burlin): I am a Marine, so it's like, I kind of want to always know, like, what the threat level is. And I just really paid attention to this guy. And he has the whitest feet that I've ever seen.

0:03:30 - (Hailey Brooks): How do you see his feet?

0:03:31 - (Dave Burlin): He was in flip flops at Vere Tower the night the Tropicana was being blown up.

0:03:36 - (Hailey Brooks): That was a cold night.

0:03:36 - (Dave Burlin): Was it not that 2:30 in the morning?

0:03:38 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah.

0:03:39 - (Dave Burlin): But what was interesting, I was like, I don't know that he's ever left this building. Yeah, go ahead and just marinate on that. I'm not.

0:03:47 - (Hailey Brooks): Or he just wears socks all the time.

0:03:48 - (Dave Burlin): I don't even think I can tell you. He told me.

0:03:50 - (Tawni Nguyen): How was his toes?

0:03:51 - (Dave Burlin): I'm just gonna. I'm just gonna be elusive.

0:03:53 - (Hailey Brooks): How's it.

0:03:53 - (Dave Burlin): Was it like eagle talon, Let that in. Welcome to the show.

0:03:57 - (Hailey Brooks): Maybe he bleaches his feet. Do you spend a lot of time on feet finder?

0:04:00 - (Dave Burlin): No, actually I had a whole different way that I wanted to kick off this episode because I knew you were here and I. I totally just.

0:04:07 - (Hailey Brooks): Well, we went feet.

0:04:08 - (Dave Burlin): I just went. We went. Yeah, we went the feet round.

0:04:11 - (Hailey Brooks): I have terrible feet, in case you were interested. I have got awful feet. My feet are the. I have really, really small hands and feet. Like, that's my thing. You're short and fat.

0:04:18 - (Dave Burlin): You're totally fine.

0:04:20 - (Tawni Nguyen): Cool.

0:04:21 - (Dave Burlin): How many cars are in your fleet?

0:04:23 - (Hailey Brooks): In my fleet. You know, I got quite a few cars in my fleet. I'm not going to say they, but, you know.

0:04:28 - (Tawni Nguyen): And they're all cargo vans.

0:04:29 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. And there's all children driving them. Yes.

0:04:34 - (Tawni Nguyen): You're like the old school ice cream truck music. That's her, dude.

0:04:38 - (Hailey Brooks): If you see an ice cream truck, man, are you approaching them for drugs? Exactly. Like, I have kids and, like, I hear the ice cream man. I'm like, no, we'll go to the store and get ice cream. I'm not taking up to a strange man in a shitty rundown van to get an ice cream cone that looks like spongebob, like, went through fricking Chernobyl. Like, this is not.

0:04:58 - (Dave Burlin): Everyone just watches the truck go by.

0:05:00 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah, it's like he's, like, right out that little peephole.

0:05:04 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah.

0:05:05 - (Tawni Nguyen): Staring.

0:05:08 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. No, I will pass on the ice cream truck. No, no, thank you.

0:05:12 - (Dave Burlin): You're playing the wrong song. That was the.

0:05:14 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, Jack in the Box. I still play, you know. You know what the new thing is so for my kids for Christmas. So instead of Inspector Gadget. No, no, no. Instead of Jack in the Box, like, they've leveled up. Okay. There's now Skibidi Toilet. You guys onto Skibidi Toilet. Skibidi Toilet. Skibidi. Skibidi.

0:05:30 - (Dave Burlin): She doesn't have kids.

0:05:31 - (Hailey Brooks): It's a thing, but it's like a YouTube thing. My. My. My brother knows it from, like, back in the day. And it's, like, resurfaced. So they have essentially a Jack in the box, but it's this guy, Skibidi Toilet, and he's in the toilet, and you push the flusher and he pops out of the toilet.

0:05:46 - (Tawni Nguyen): Wait, is that where the term comes from?

0:05:48 - (Hailey Brooks): Skibidi?

0:05:49 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah, yeah, the Gen Beta thing.

0:05:51 - (Hailey Brooks): Yes, that's you.

0:05:53 - (Tawni Nguyen): And I'm like, am I old? Cause I'm not that old. And I don't know what the fuck you just said to me.

0:05:57 - (Hailey Brooks): Skibidi's like a. It's like the. Was it like, Sigma is like, one of the terms they're using now, too?

0:06:03 - (Tawni Nguyen): Oh, my God. How old am I? Like, how long am I?

0:06:05 - (Hailey Brooks): Dude, I just did a 90s night at the volleyball game the other day, and, like, seeing little kids, like, ah, 90s. Ha ha.

0:06:10 - (Dave Burlin): I'm like, oh, I went to first Friday, and they literally had hundreds of racks of, like, Massimo, like, crew necks. It was ridiculous.

0:06:20 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, no. Target brand.

0:06:22 - (Tawni Nguyen): That was a Target brand, right?

0:06:23 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah, she was targeting, like, the 2000s.

0:06:26 - (Hailey Brooks): But, like, yeah, Old Navy deserves A comeback. Honestly.

0:06:30 - (Dave Burlin): Who?

0:06:31 - (Hailey Brooks): Old Navy.

0:06:31 - (Dave Burlin): Never heard of her.

0:06:33 - (Hailey Brooks): She old? No. Give me minor Navy.

0:06:37 - (Dave Burlin): So, greatest intro ever.

0:06:40 - (Hailey Brooks): Welcome to the show.

0:06:40 - (Dave Burlin): Hailey Rooks.

0:06:41 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. Hi. Thanks. I'm really excited to be here.

0:06:43 - (Dave Burlin): Tell us everything. You, who you are, where you came from. Maybe not will. And then what are you excited about?

0:06:51 - (Hailey Brooks): It's life. I'm excited to be here. No. So, okay, my story. So I am a transplant. I'm originally from Philly. I'm an East Coaster. 215 Philly suburbs. Okay. Not the city, Right? A little bit different. But yeah. I came to Vegas in 2016. My whole family kind of slowly started to migrate. My uncle was actually the first person who moved out here. He was a chef. He was like, crushing it, doing the whole chefy chef thing.

0:07:13 - (Hailey Brooks): He moved here, I think it was like 2002. So it was like early 2000s. And we were like, whoa, that place is great. And he kept popping out kids left and right. So I would visit Vegas as a kid. Like, I think the, like, 16 is what I really was like. There's something about this town that I like, really, really like here. Like, it was really cool. My first time visiting, it snowed, so that'll give you that. One time. It snowed in the early 2000s, and I was like, this place was supposed to be really warm and beautiful and it's snowing and I don't like the snow. I'm from the East Coast. I want to get away from the snow.

0:07:44 - (Hailey Brooks): But, yeah, so he moved out. And then slowly, over time, my whole family suddenly started migrating. I was going to community college studying communications and, like, theater. And I came to UNLV to study journalism. And when I came, it was 2016. It was January 2016. I moved. So it was when the Knights were being born and the Raiders were coming. So it was perfect for me. I was in journalism now, so I was in journalism. I got to like, literally their whole first season, I was in the locker room doing interviews. Like, I was there for the Raiders. Groundbreaking.

0:08:12 - (Hailey Brooks): I did a lot of sports stuff. So I started working in sports right after graduation. I worked at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So even more sports. Sports. Like, we did a cool little sports swap with Kyle Busch or. Yeah, Kyle Busch and Derek England at the time. And then I had some babies.

0:08:30 - (Dave Burlin): Nice.

0:08:30 - (Hailey Brooks): So I threw all that away. I was a party host on the weekends doing sports. Who. Who needs that? Right? Who needs that? So I had kids, started a family, moved out to California. I did a two year stint. I served my time where. Where, where I Was in Long beach for a year, and then Huntington beach for a year. For me, I were in Long Beach. I love Long Beach. If I could get back there, man. Oh, I was like at bl, you know, Bluff park, like. Yeah. Oh, I was right there. So there's all these, like, million dollar homes. Then we were in this, like, little apartment complex. So it's just like I would go out with the stroller and be like, yeah, I totally belong. But it's crazy because, like, we were out there during COVID and stuff too. So I literally was walking my son, I was pregnant with one and pushing the other in a stroller.

0:09:09 - (Hailey Brooks): Walked into a BLM protest. And then three months later, we moved to Huntington Beach. Had the same, but opposite. It was now a Trump rally. And it was all like 10 minutes down the road from each other. It was really. It was two completely different worlds. It was so crazy. But I loved it out there. It was so nice. But then I came back. That's why I love Vegas. Cause I got to rebuild myself twice out here.

0:09:31 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. So I came back, rebuilt myself from scratch, bottom up, and now here we are.

0:09:37 - (Dave Burlin): So I have so many questions.

0:09:40 - (Hailey Brooks): I know, I know.

0:09:41 - (Tawni Nguyen): Me too.

0:09:42 - (Hailey Brooks): Hit me with it.

0:09:44 - (Tawni Nguyen): I knew there was something about us, and it's our trauma.

0:09:47 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh. Oh, God. That's what everyone who goes into comedy, that's what. That's what starts it. That's what. When people ask me, like, how'd you get into it? I'm like, do you really want to.

0:09:54 - (Tawni Nguyen): Know how deep are you willing to sit with pain right now?

0:09:56 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. How real are you? You want me to give you. You want to butter it up or what do you want to do?

0:10:01 - (Dave Burlin): So that. Yeah, that's what I was going to ask. Because I've always tiptoed that line, right? So I've done the MC thing. I was a DJ. I DJed weddings all over the United States. A lot of mic work. I've been a speaker. I tried comedy twice. It is hard. But I grew up on like raunchy ass comedy. So, like, I remember it was like one of those New Year's Eveve's, right? And HBO, back in the day, they used to do a marathon and they did a marathon of what was the black comedy like?

0:10:34 - (Hailey Brooks): Cat William. Def Jam.

0:10:35 - (Dave Burlin): Def Comedy Jam. It was eight hours straight. Def Comedy Jam, you could cram eight hours on a VHS cassette. And that's what me and my friend recorded. And we had like two tapes and we just watched. It was like Dave Chappelle was like, on like, as A. As a.

0:10:51 - (Hailey Brooks): Like a newbie.

0:10:52 - (Dave Burlin): As a comedian. Yeah, he was like, yeah, Joe Torrey was the guy. You know, he was the lineup guy. And of course, I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. Yeah.

0:11:02 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, my.

0:11:03 - (Dave Burlin): Like, it was like one of the last towns that took their signs down. It was kind of bad, but, like, we always grew up.

0:11:09 - (Hailey Brooks): It's the last town that took their signs down.

0:11:11 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah. That's a real thing.

0:11:13 - (Tawni Nguyen): Like a new sign.

0:11:14 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah, no, it was like, don't. Yeah.

0:11:17 - (Hailey Brooks): You know, just don't. That's okay. Don't, don't.

0:11:22 - (Dave Burlin): But so I tried comedy. I did it. It was a curated experience once in Oklahoma, and it was like a awkward teenage diary. Right. And it was like, you actually read. I had my journals from, like, 1996, 1997.

0:11:37 - (Hailey Brooks): That's so cool.

0:11:39 - (Dave Burlin): And I was like, they actually sat down. Cause it wasn't just like, oh, wing it. Cause it was like a whole curated thing. And I was like, this is my first time. And I read two stories. I was like, I got two stories, but, man, I found some really crazy quotes. And I have 10. Like, can I read him, like, I don't know, like the top 10 quotes? He goes, you mean like David Letterman? I go, yeah. And he goes, yes.

0:11:59 - (Dave Burlin): So that's what it was. So that's my. My take a comedy. The other one I tried just like a five minute bit and just totally crashed and burned.

0:12:07 - (Tawni Nguyen): It was like, worst for her show right now.

0:12:09 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah.

0:12:09 - (Hailey Brooks): I mean, we wear headphones, so it's great. If they don't like you.

0:12:12 - (Dave Burlin): Okay.

0:12:12 - (Tawni Nguyen): That's what you really can't tell.

0:12:13 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. Well, no, you can. So that's what I tell people. I encourage it. And for the first time this past week, I had someone actually do it. And I was like, oh. So because they're silent disco. So I have a silent disco comedy show. So they're silent disco headphones. So you have multiple channels. Because I got a silent disco. You can change the channel. So we're doing comedy on green, right. You still have a red and a blue channel. So in the beginning, I'm like, yo, if someone offends you or you really don't vibe with them, flip your channel, let them know and just vibe out. Because this is football. You have a good time.

0:12:41 - (Dave Burlin): It's like inside out, like in the crowd.

0:12:43 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. And you can see everything. So you, as the comedian, you see them flip the channel. Like, that hurts your ego, bro. And I encourage it.

0:12:53 - (Tawni Nguyen): I must come destroy the eagle.

0:12:56 - (Hailey Brooks): It's so much fun.

0:12:57 - (Dave Burlin): We're coming.

0:12:58 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, make them too.

0:12:59 - (Tawni Nguyen): He's like, I don't know if this friendship is a good idea, but.

0:13:01 - (Dave Burlin): So I went on a deep rabbit hole on mine, on my high school trauma. How did you get into comedy? Was there some. Was there a person that sparked it or.

0:13:11 - (Hailey Brooks): There was. It was a series. It was a series of events, so. Cause first and foremost, when I was in high school, class clown, like, it always. I was all. It was always in me, but I was doing journalism. I was like, I have to be serious. Serious journalist and. Rah.

0:13:25 - (Tawni Nguyen): You're very serious with the turtleneck.

0:13:27 - (Hailey Brooks): I'm a prestigious lady. I wear. You can't see my neck or my collarbones. I'm very. I'm a woman. But no. So, like, it was always there. And even all my, like, stories, like, my favorite story I did in college was when the Knights were coming, and I did, like, a How to be a hockey fan. Like a 101, like, banging on the glass and, like, saying nights during, like, the national anthem, things like that. So the. There was always, like, comedic elements. Yeah.

0:13:52 - (Hailey Brooks): And then when I came back to Vegas, so I've always been a theater kid, too. And I got a gig because I was single mom in it, doing whatever I could. I got a gig playing the Mad Hatter in this, like, immersive Alice in Wonderland cocktail experience. And I was very cool. It was really, really cool. I was like this, like, sexy little Mad Hatter. And there was, like, a costume change and be like, oh, solve my riddles.

0:14:16 - (Hailey Brooks): But the script was hot garbage, dude. The script, it was so bad. It was like these, like, jam. Todd. Like, we don't. We don't have jam tarts in the us, bro. Like, what are we talking about? It was like, this Australian company that was, like, based in the uk, but, like, they're out of la.

0:14:31 - (Dave Burlin): So there was just down under us, right?

0:14:33 - (Hailey Brooks): Like, just like, a lot of, like, misinterpretation. And, like, it was so bad. And so I started to, like, write my own jokes, like, as the Mad Hatter in the character. And they would land much better than anything that I was given. And I was like, let me see if I can do this. Let's give this a try. And so I went blocking your own scenes, like, changing the script up a little bit, you know? Yeah, they won't notice.

0:14:58 - (Hailey Brooks): Like, there was, like, this corn, like, riddle thing they had to solve. And I was like, it's corn. Like, it was like. I don't know. It was just. It was quite the experience.

0:15:08 - (Tawni Nguyen): But you can tell whoever wrote the whole Alice thing was on.

0:15:13 - (Hailey Brooks): Okay, well, that's another thing too. We, like, couldn't mention Alice herself. And also, like, as copyright turns. Not even that, but the guy that wrote it, he had like a. Like a. How do I say this nicely?

0:15:24 - (Dave Burlin): Oh, he got kicked off the Alice in Wonderland gig.

0:15:27 - (Hailey Brooks): She was a child and he was obsessed with her. You know what I mean? Like, it was. Yeah, like the whole thing is actually really creepy.

0:15:33 - (Tawni Nguyen): Maybe the same guy with the fleet of vehicles.

0:15:35 - (Hailey Brooks): He probably has really white feet. Yeah, we should check his feet. Someone. What's the author's name? Check that man's feet. But yeah, so. And then I just was like, let me just do stand up and. And you know, what's the worst that could happen in life at that point? And I turned out I was pretty good at it. You're not perfect your first time in any way, shape, or form. It takes a lot of work and effort and all that. But I've been very blessed and all of my past, like, experiences really helped me with, like, the art of stand up.

0:16:03 - (Dave Burlin): So was there any. Was there any favorite stand up people that you kind of aspired to or that you really watched and, like, tried to understand, get inside their head?

0:16:12 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. So as a kid, it's funny too, because, like, not so much stand up, but sketch comedy. I was obsessed with Carol Burnett as a kid. I love Carol Burnett, Annie in particular. Like, I watched that movie over and over and over as a kid and she was Ms. Hannigan. And that's how I like, fell in love with Carol Burnett. And then she had these amazing costumes and she was hysterical and she's very animated. So I was always into, like, sketch comedy. That's how I landed in, like improv, doing that kind of thing, and then stand up itself. Like, I'm very inspired by, like, the modern women. Obviously Ellen was like, at the forefront and you know, you have your others back in the day, but it's. It's definitely more open to women now. And a lot of people kind of prefer female comedians now and all this other thing. And so seeing a lot of the modern women.

0:16:52 - (Dave Burlin): I'm just kidding.

0:16:52 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, you're forced to listen to us now.

0:16:55 - (Tawni Nguyen): Thank you for the acknowledgement.

0:16:58 - (Hailey Brooks): Your Tiffany haddishes, like your modern, like, like those modern women inspired me in the same way that Carol Burnett, you steel ball, obviously too. It's sketch comedy.

0:17:07 - (Dave Burlin): So when you say sketch, obviously everyone knows Saturday Night Live and it varies from season to season, but there's another deep cut. Most people don't know it, but it was the state in TV. The state. Did you ever see that?

0:17:21 - (Hailey Brooks): I watched MADtv.

0:17:21 - (Dave Burlin): Oh, my gosh. So there's a whole world. It's like. They also did Wet Hot American Summer. If you.

0:17:27 - (Hailey Brooks): That is a movie.

0:17:28 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah, that's a movie. And it's like a lot of the same people. So I. I have a gift for you. It's at my house. I'm not going to make you come to my house, but I will bring you the gift next time.

0:17:39 - (Hailey Brooks): I have a gift for you at my house.

0:17:40 - (Tawni Nguyen): That's your friend. I'm gonna say this.

0:17:42 - (Hailey Brooks): What are you doing at 2am?

0:17:44 - (Tawni Nguyen): 1.30Am we'll bring on the gift.

0:17:49 - (Hailey Brooks): No, actually, in case he turns.

0:17:51 - (Tawni Nguyen): You never know the next time.

0:17:52 - (Dave Burlin): It's ridiculous. Yeah, it was a whole sketch comedy. It came on MTV and it only ran for like two seasons maybe.

0:17:58 - (Hailey Brooks): Okay.

0:17:59 - (Dave Burlin): But it was like the people. A lot of those people ended up going and doing Reno911.

0:18:04 - (Hailey Brooks): I knew. I knew it for a reason group. And what's the. What's the salmon one? They did like pink salmon or something like that. It's those same. Because it's the same people that did like beer. Beer Fest, right? Beer Fest.

0:18:16 - (Dave Burlin): I think so.

0:18:16 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. And then there was like.

0:18:17 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah, I don't know what their names are. I'm just like, it's the state people.

0:18:21 - (Hailey Brooks): They're doing the thing, you know, they're doing the things. What year was that?

0:18:25 - (Dave Burlin): What year? That was probably 1990. If I had to go, damn, I.

0:18:30 - (Hailey Brooks): Was still in my dad's ball sack. That's why I was.

0:18:35 - (Tawni Nguyen): One years old.

0:18:35 - (Hailey Brooks): You told me you were 32.

0:18:37 - (Dave Burlin): I'm just kidding.

0:18:38 - (Hailey Brooks): I know.

0:18:39 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah, I know.

0:18:39 - (Dave Burlin): You told me you were 26.

0:18:40 - (Hailey Brooks): I was born in 92. Well, listen, listen. Depends who's asking. What's the job we're looking for here? Could go either way. I could be an old lady. I could be a young one. What you want? What you want?

0:18:52 - (Dave Burlin): Okay, great. So. And now you've been. I started watching your stuff again. I saw the tourist part and then I've seen you do different activations. You've done different kind of activations. So how did you get started in the activation and the events and then what are you excited about now?

0:19:10 - (Hailey Brooks): Ooh, like Vegas y things. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So I do a lot of, like, brand ambassador or like content creation. So for like a year, I was actually a content creator for Vegas for the Vegas social channels on TikTok and Instagram. And it's funny because my Vegas character is kind of what helped me get that job, but then also what helped me lose that job. They didn't like me telling the real things about Vegas.

0:19:38 - (Hailey Brooks): Exactly. So they offered me health insurance and a nice stable job. And they were like, so if you could shut up now, that would be great.

0:19:46 - (Dave Burlin): And we don't mean, like, all of it.

0:19:49 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. Like, you know, sparing.

0:19:51 - (Tawni Nguyen): You need to be the guy that does a sign. Yeah, the signage.

0:19:54 - (Hailey Brooks): The signage of Vegas traffic.

0:19:56 - (Tawni Nguyen): Shit.

0:19:56 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, my God. Spinning of this. I would have so much fun doing that. Yeah. Though. I love seeing. There's this one guy on, like, 215 out in Henderson. He's just having a ball, man. He smoked a fat J and he's just, like, out there jamming. Like, I would love that.

0:20:09 - (Tawni Nguyen): Is the liberty of where we want to be. It's like, we want to be so liberty that, like, you're just on the fucking side.

0:20:14 - (Hailey Brooks): Have you ever seen the movie Soul? Oh, so it's like. It's like, about your soul. It's like, jazzy. It's a Disney movie. It's an animated movie.

0:20:23 - (Dave Burlin): Oh, yeah.

0:20:23 - (Hailey Brooks): But there is a gu who, like, he's the most happiest, most blissful person in the whole film. And I'm pretty sure he's a sign spinner. He's just living his best life because he's happy. And he found that just accepting where you are and being happy. And I think it's funny. I think he is a sign spinner. So literally, it's just about being where you are. Anyway. Vegas around town, I'm always there. People always say that. Like, somebody just.

0:20:45 - (Hailey Brooks): I know was like, of course you were at cbs. Like, I didn't even think to ask. I was like, yeah, I'm just. I'm just there, man.

0:20:49 - (Dave Burlin): Media Badge.

0:20:50 - (Hailey Brooks): I just. Yeah, literally.

0:20:51 - (Dave Burlin): I remember one time Media badge from last year.

0:20:54 - (Hailey Brooks): One time at sema, I. I was doing content creation for this company called, like, Moto Bio. They were just doing car stuff. I just needed to go ask people about cars, whatever, do car interviews. And he was like, oh, I don't have a badge. Yada yada. I was like, don't worry, I got this. I just, like, walked in there with confidence, was like, I'm here. Like, totally didn't happen.

0:21:15 - (Tawni Nguyen): Allegedly.

0:21:16 - (Hailey Brooks): Allegedly just walked in there and, you know, it was.

0:21:22 - (Dave Burlin): What's your favorite conference? Do you have a favorite?

0:21:25 - (Hailey Brooks): Favorite.

0:21:26 - (Dave Burlin): What's your least favorite?

0:21:27 - (Hailey Brooks): World of Concrete Con Expo. Yeah. Expo comes once every four years. Those are the most. Imagine every man who's ever come up to you and told you to smile more, got together and had a convention. That's literally what it is.

0:21:43 - (Tawni Nguyen): I would love to go be their worst fucking nightmare.

0:21:50 - (Hailey Brooks): You should. You should go. It's the worst one. Nab is my favorite, though. Nab is my favorite because that's my. Yeah, that's my world. That's my jam. It's also the first convention I ever worked, and so it's hold a special place in my heart, but it's. It's a lot of fun. CES is slowly. Like, I could see the difference. I used to work Comic Con a bunch, too, for a different job that I had. And you could see at ces, like, people were there in cosplay this year.

0:22:13 - (Dave Burlin): Oh, cool.

0:22:14 - (Hailey Brooks): But, like, the people that take. It's like the Consumer Electronics show, whatever it is. So, like, the nerds are like.

0:22:20 - (Tawni Nguyen): Like, they're coming out.

0:22:20 - (Dave Burlin): They're like, what is this?

0:22:22 - (Hailey Brooks): We don't like this.

0:22:23 - (Dave Burlin): Where's your vest?

0:22:24 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, this is a suit and tie. Like, take this seriously. You're dressed like Tron. Like, what are you doing?

0:22:30 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah, but those are the guys you want to talk to.

0:22:32 - (Hailey Brooks): They're fine. They want to spend money.

0:22:34 - (Dave Burlin): You ever go to Pizza Expo?

0:22:36 - (Hailey Brooks): Pizza. The pizza one?

0:22:37 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah.

0:22:37 - (Hailey Brooks): No, I was there. I was there. I briefly saw it. Do you guys go to the Pizza Expo?

0:22:41 - (Dave Burlin): I have. I have some.

0:22:42 - (Tawni Nguyen): It's on our list.

0:22:43 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah, I have a crazy in there, and I think we're getting media passes, so we might need.

0:22:48 - (Hailey Brooks): I will go. I will go. We might need a content. If you need a content creator, if you need an emcee, if you need a brand ambassador, whatever, I will fill that hole for you. If you need a Ninja Turtle, let's cosplay as Ninja Turtles at the Pizza Expo.

0:23:02 - (Tawni Nguyen): I do have a onesie.

0:23:04 - (Hailey Brooks): I do.

0:23:05 - (Dave Burlin): I need pizza onesie.

0:23:06 - (Hailey Brooks): I could be April. April Weathers.

0:23:08 - (Dave Burlin): April o' Neal.

0:23:08 - (Hailey Brooks): O' Neal. April.

0:23:10 - (Tawni Nguyen): April Weathers.

0:23:11 - (Dave Burlin): April Weathers.

0:23:13 - (Tawni Nguyen): I was like, april Lucky.

0:23:14 - (Hailey Brooks): April o' Neal. I'll come in all yellow. I'll interview people about their pizza. Do you think Dave Portnoy will be there? One bite. We should invite him. Did anyone ever ask him? Maybe he wants to go?

0:23:26 - (Dave Burlin): Like, no one's ever invited him. Like, he's just like, every time. He's like, man, no one ever invites.

0:23:32 - (Hailey Brooks): Me to these things. The Fontaine Blue opening was really fun, though, too. I got to be a human arrow. So they, like, put us in these, like, gorgeous white, like, Marilyn Monroe type dresses and these, like, crazy wigs and we all look the same and there was like 50 of us, like jewelry, arm socks, the whole thing. And we just had to like, flow around.

0:23:47 - (Dave Burlin): Nice.

0:23:48 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah, you guys need to go to that one convention with all the goods.

0:23:51 - (Hailey Brooks): With all the who's.

0:23:52 - (Tawni Nguyen): With all the dudes. That's like, smile more.

0:23:55 - (Hailey Brooks): Con Expo. Con Expo.

0:23:57 - (Tawni Nguyen): I don't even know what that is.

0:23:58 - (Hailey Brooks): I thought it was gonna be a bunch of convicts, like, getting their life together, and it wasn't.

0:24:02 - (Dave Burlin): The one that you're like, I wrote them letters.

0:24:05 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, I could be into this.

0:24:06 - (Tawni Nguyen): She rolls it in a fucking boombox with a Cons.

0:24:09 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. Commissary. Yeah. No, it wasn't. Wasn't it?

0:24:16 - (Dave Burlin): Okay, so you crash. You obviously crash all the expos.

0:24:19 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah.

0:24:20 - (Dave Burlin): You've got the weekly show that you're doing now.

0:24:22 - (Hailey Brooks): Yes.

0:24:23 - (Dave Burlin): And then what other activations do you get to curate your own or do you kind of find people that they. They reach out to you? How does that work?

0:24:30 - (Hailey Brooks): A little bit of both. So I'm on, you know those agency, you know, hey, we have Super Bowls coming up. Here's all these. Da da da. A lot of times though too, I literally just get hit up off of Instagram or making the connections from the year prior. Like, even this year at ces, I was like, I was supposed to be like talking to a hologram. That was my job. This year was like talking to a hologram, like on stage. But it ended up being like giving like a presentation for the most part. So a lot of people come by giving their business cards, like, can you do this for me? I'm like, did you know where the wrist ends? Yeah, no. Well, I have one a bunch too. I'm like, I'm literally talking to a fictional friggin fortune teller right now. Can't you.

0:25:05 - (Tawni Nguyen): Out of my mind right now.

0:25:06 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, literally, I'm tripping balls. Can you just handle your own, please?

0:25:11 - (Dave Burlin): You're like talking to the hologram. You're like, I don't work here.

0:25:13 - (Hailey Brooks): I'm just like, I don't know, man. Yeah, but like, I'm on like upwork and gig salad and all these things where you can get jobs. But honestly, most of us just come from word of mouth or like Instagram. That's why like all my Instagram says content creator, host and all those things. So when people are looking for like Vegas host, Vegas mc, That's a nice SEO.

0:25:32 - (Tawni Nguyen): I want to come back to the gig salad thing. Like, what the is that? If you didn't mention that in the same salad.

0:25:38 - (Hailey Brooks): Speaking events. Yeah, it's like you could just go on and hire like, oh, I need I. One time. I don't fit the bill for this, but they needed a bilingual, like, MC for like, a. A baby shower. And I was like, oh, like, I'm not bilingual, so I couldn't do it. But, like, I speak this made up langu ways. Yeah, that makes sense.

0:25:54 - (Tawni Nguyen): In my head.

0:25:56 - (Hailey Brooks): I get gibberish. It. You know, get a guard. Get a goo. No, but yeah, so just. Yeah, I'm a gig. I'm a gig worker. I host trivia. I do like a bunch of. I just. I just gig. I just gig. Which is the. Which is so Vegas. Like, couldn't do that in Oklahoma. No offense.

0:26:11 - (Tawni Nguyen): The gig economy, the creator economy, the attention economy, whatever you want to call it, it's kind of like going in the same direction. And that's kind of where we see, like, part of. Of the Vegas locals, the hospitality world kind of evolving too.

0:26:23 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah.

0:26:23 - (Tawni Nguyen): So, like, you know, when we talk to other people, they're like, oh, you're out here, then you're either for a girl, it's like an atmosphere model. You're an only fans girl, or you're a realtor. I'm like, no, there's other people out here.

0:26:34 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, there's other people too.

0:26:35 - (Tawni Nguyen): Not, you know, on the foot.

0:26:38 - (Hailey Brooks): I'll tell you what. I live in Summerlin, and when I drop my kids off, I think every mom up there is a realtor. Every single one. Every single one.

0:26:45 - (Dave Burlin): They have it on the back of their. They have it on the back.

0:26:47 - (Hailey Brooks): They do. They have the white Teslas with their logos on it. Yeah, yeah. And their husbands have the cyber trucks. Yo, they're up there.

0:26:56 - (Dave Burlin): So that actually. So that brings up two things. Funny. And I was like, normally we don't, like, say, oh, here's today's date for this episode. Because sometimes they roll out sooner rather than later. Sometimes we kind of hold on to it.

0:27:09 - (Tawni Nguyen): Time is just a construct.

0:27:10 - (Hailey Brooks): It is all made up.

0:27:11 - (Dave Burlin): Well, but it is funny because here we are, it's January. January 22nd, and we got a new president yesterday.

0:27:19 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, yeah, that guy.

0:27:20 - (Dave Burlin): So that, like, opens up a ton of material for the next four.

0:27:25 - (Hailey Brooks): Dude, honestly, I have a straight face. Relax. It has respect for your elders.

0:27:30 - (Dave Burlin): Me personally, I watched Jon Stewart thing this morning. I watched his, like, his, like, recap of the night last, and it was like, all right. I really felt like I was ready, and now I'm just like.

0:27:44 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, it's.

0:27:45 - (Dave Burlin): But I'm ready to let.

0:27:47 - (Hailey Brooks): I'M ready to laugh. I'm ready to laugh. Let's just laugh at this whole thing. That's what it is anyway. It's all a big joke. It's all fugazi. It's all made up. It's all.

0:27:55 - (Dave Burlin): What is it? Samuerill was like, he's like, guys, seriously, it's four years. He's like, we've got time. Was that a. Was that a. Yep. That is what we saw.

0:28:06 - (Hailey Brooks): That is what we saw. Dwight.

0:28:09 - (Dave Burlin): He's not even back.

0:28:10 - (Hailey Brooks): No worries. Fine. We'll move on.

0:28:14 - (Tawni Nguyen): The scheme of it all so it.

0:28:15 - (Hailey Brooks): Doesn'T not be so lizard people run the show. We all.

0:28:20 - (Dave Burlin): I feel like there's a few different elements and I want to take. So this is a fun fact. I want to take one of the like. What's the classes? The different kinds of classes that you can take. Improv. Yeah, I want to take an improv class.

0:28:33 - (Hailey Brooks): I know someone that teaches at unlv.

0:28:35 - (Dave Burlin): Nice.

0:28:35 - (Hailey Brooks): He has a stand up class and I think he just has an.

0:28:37 - (Dave Burlin): You have to go to UNLV to.

0:28:38 - (Hailey Brooks): Well, I think it's a public school. So you can go sit in. Right. Isn't that how that works?

0:28:42 - (Tawni Nguyen): That creepy guy in the back?

0:28:44 - (Hailey Brooks): Because that's actually something in Vegas as far as comedy. Our improv we do have. There's mom's basement and they have comedy sports. But other than that we're kind of lacking in the improv department. Not going to lie. Yeah, it's something that we need.

0:28:56 - (Dave Burlin): Well, I just want to learn some type of craft. So I did weddings like 700 plus all over the United States. So the basic MC, but it's the same jokes every time because I never see those people again. But I secretly want to do gig work on Virgin voyages. Right?

0:29:13 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, the cruises.

0:29:14 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah. So but they. And you can be like a dj. Some of them, they want singers. I do not sing. But they want MCs show up to sing.

0:29:22 - (Hailey Brooks): But they want like I do that. I show up to singing auditions and then I tell jokes.

0:29:25 - (Dave Burlin): Do you really? Just for the content.

0:29:28 - (Hailey Brooks): Well, just cause they're looking for entertainment. I'm like, look, I can't sing, but I bet I can make you laugh.

0:29:37 - (Dave Burlin): But no, I thought that'd be cool. And also I think for Virgin specifically, they want more funny, snarky, obnoxious people that can really kind of riff a crowd.

0:29:48 - (Tawni Nguyen): So you gotta build that PC, I think identity, you know, that you once had. Yeah.

0:29:52 - (Hailey Brooks): You got to go like full blown.

0:29:54 - (Dave Burlin): I shut it.

0:29:55 - (Hailey Brooks): No, they actually. I know A lot of cruise ship comics and like you have to have like, it's like 45 minutes clean and then 45 minutes, I think you have to have two 45 minute sets that are clean and then one that's like dirtier. Like you have to have a. You have to have a lot of material and, and try to. Cuz it's cruise ship crowd, you know. Yeah.

0:30:13 - (Tawni Nguyen): Cuz if they don't like you, they're going to come to your room or push you over because you, you're, you're with them for like five seconds.

0:30:18 - (Dave Burlin): What if they do like you? They're gonna come to your room.

0:30:20 - (Hailey Brooks): Well, are you holding? You know, are you looking what happens in Virgin Islands?

0:30:27 - (Tawni Nguyen): I see your true intention now, Dave Berlin.

0:30:29 - (Hailey Brooks): Bum, bum, bum. It's so funny. Cause it's the reverse. Like men literally, like they do comedy. Like, oh, I'm gonna get so many chicks. And I like go up there, I'm like, can you fucking stop talking to me, please? Fucking leave me alone. Dear God.

0:30:40 - (Dave Burlin): I went to a thing last night, it was like the Burbiz. It was like a veteran thing. Cause shot show's in town and there's a girl, I can't think of her name. Christina. Ariana or something like that. I'd literally just seen a TikTok of her the night before and I was like, what? You're here, you're real, you're on my. For your page.

0:30:58 - (Tawni Nguyen): You actually followed her there?

0:31:00 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah. And then it was weird because then she walked by and she's like, hey, how are you? And I'm like, I don't know how to hit on comedians. Like, what do you.

0:31:08 - (Hailey Brooks): Don't, don't.

0:31:09 - (Dave Burlin): Just don't.

0:31:10 - (Hailey Brooks): Just don't. That's the way you do it. You just don't.

0:31:13 - (Dave Burlin): You just play cool, Cool.

0:31:14 - (Hailey Brooks): Just hey, you know what you do? You can tell them they're funny. You're funny.

0:31:19 - (Dave Burlin): Did you pass me that drink? Thanks.

0:31:21 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh yeah, I know. Are you here to take my order?

0:31:23 - (Tawni Nguyen): Actually I'm trying to tell Dave not to be funny or he's gonna be like, act natural. I can't.

0:31:30 - (Dave Burlin): No, that's good, that's good advice. Thank you for the rest of the show.

0:31:36 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah. No, he's gone, He's.

0:31:40 - (Dave Burlin): No. So, okay, so what is that like as far as the women in comedy, men in comedy? Is there, Is there, is that a whole thing?

0:31:48 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, it's crazy. In Vegas, it's a very big thing. Okay. A lot of other cities, they come here and they're like, whoa, okay. Because, like, you think about it before. I always say before 2016, because, like, I wasn't here, but, like, Vegas, before Britney Spears had her residency, like, Vegas used to be a place where, like, your career kind of went to, like, fizzle. You know what I mean? Like, when you had a residency, it wasn't like a. Oh.

0:32:10 - (Tawni Nguyen): Like, it's kind of like you're trying to revive it.

0:32:14 - (Hailey Brooks): Not even. It was like you're trying to just, like, fade off into the sunset. Right. It was like Vegas, you know, Like Elvis. Yeah. You know, but now it's like, you know, Usher. Oh, yeah. Way too soon. No, he just had his hundredth birthday or 90th birthday. What was it? It was at Westgate during CES 90 or 100. I forget. He owed Elvis.

0:32:41 - (Dave Burlin): Wedding.

0:32:41 - (Hailey Brooks): Elvis wedding. No, literally. I have a friend that's also a wedding planner. She's got a roster of Elvis. Like, there's just.

0:32:48 - (Dave Burlin): There's a plural Elvis.

0:32:50 - (Hailey Brooks): Plural for Elvis is Elvi. Yes. That's where you get Elvira. Right? That's if Elvis had titties. That's what Elvira is. Right.

0:32:58 - (Tawni Nguyen): There's a whole world that we're about to unlock.

0:33:00 - (Dave Burlin): You live here now.

0:33:00 - (Hailey Brooks): I made that up.

0:33:01 - (Dave Burlin): You live here now. We need another seat. Two more cameras.

0:33:05 - (Hailey Brooks): Yes. All right, I'll take the wizard.

0:33:07 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah. Represent the tits in this conversation.

0:33:09 - (Hailey Brooks): Come on, tits, tits. Let's talk about the real things that matter.

0:33:15 - (Dave Burlin): I'm just over here not hitting on.

0:33:16 - (Hailey Brooks): Is it crazy that we're getting the Oakland A's when we should really be getting the Oakland Double Ds? Let's be so for real. That was really funny. During the Tropicana implosion. I was watching it from Virgin, actually, from the parking garage. And so they did the whole, like, drone show, right? And everyone's, like, all sad. Like, people were crying and everything. And then they're showing, like, the old logo, and then they show the A's logo. And it got quiet.

0:33:39 - (Hailey Brooks): It got so quiet, dude. Everyone's like, oh, chop. Can all the memories. Oh.

0:33:44 - (Tawni Nguyen): We feel fine again.

0:33:45 - (Dave Burlin): We're gone.

0:33:46 - (Tawni Nguyen): All feelings are gone.

0:33:48 - (Hailey Brooks): Faded off into the spirit.

0:33:49 - (Dave Burlin): Have the A's ever won a game.

0:33:52 - (Hailey Brooks): Ever in the history? How? You got an A? Y' all should have an F. Jesus Christ.

0:33:56 - (Dave Burlin): I think they had Rickey henderson, like, in 1990. Tops baseball cards.

0:34:01 - (Hailey Brooks): And now we are creating traffic for them. Thank you for that. So, okay, so anyway, where were we?

0:34:09 - (Tawni Nguyen): We were talking about women in comedy.

0:34:11 - (Hailey Brooks): Women in comedy. Oh, yeah. So in Vegas, there's definitely a Little bit of a. Like, there's. There's definitely a little bit of, like.

0:34:17 - (Tawni Nguyen): How are you making it through all the dick fights here?

0:34:19 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, Jesus Christ. You know very well there is a hot second. I thought. I thought that my car got broken into, and I was like, is this a bunch of dudes out here? It was just. I parked at the Strat, though. That's what you get for parking at the Strat. That's really what it was. It wasn't.

0:34:31 - (Dave Burlin): There was no, like, malicious intent. That's just Tuesday.

0:34:35 - (Hailey Brooks): A product of my surroundings. Yeah.

0:34:37 - (Tawni Nguyen): Like, the night we went to Atomic Gol had to park at the Strat, and I was like, I've never been to Distraught. And I was like, oh, my God, you're fine.

0:34:42 - (Hailey Brooks): When you're in the Strat. It's very nice inside, and there's a lot of things to do, but it's. It's that Aztec across the street, man. It's just not zombies, you know?

0:34:53 - (Tawni Nguyen): And. Yeah.

0:34:54 - (Hailey Brooks): And that walk, was it sketchy walk?

0:34:56 - (Dave Burlin): It's always funny, too. Like, there's a tik Tok where it's.

0:34:59 - (Hailey Brooks): Like, if you want to go have.

0:35:00 - (Dave Burlin): A great time, it's right by the Strat, and they're walking up to them, like, don't go to Aztec.

0:35:04 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, no. That would be hysterical Tik Tok influencers. Please tell everyone visiting that, like, Aztec is the spot to be.

0:35:13 - (Dave Burlin): Did you hear. Did you hear what everyone was gonna do on TikTok when it shut down? Somebody, they started this whole thing. Like, what if we just all jumped on LinkedIn and that's so funny. What if they all jumped on LinkedIn and just started throwing their videos?

0:35:28 - (Hailey Brooks): That would be so funny because everyone, like, takes themselves so seriously on LinkedIn. It's ridiculous.

0:35:32 - (Dave Burlin): It was like, it's like, we're taking one app. We're taking all of them.

0:35:36 - (Hailey Brooks): All of them. I hopped over to the Chinese one, though. The red. Red note. Red band, whatever it was called. It was so funny.

0:35:44 - (Dave Burlin): You can't say it will bleep it out.

0:35:45 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh, that one. I went over there, and they were so nice, but they were calling everyone Tick Tock refugees. And it was. They're like, welcome Tick Tock refugees. They're like, nihau, like, teaching you, like, Mandarin. And they had a cat tax. They were like, if you're new here, like, making a video and, like, you have to show us, like, your cat or your dog. Like, it was so cute. They were so nice. I was like, okay, I could do this. I could learn A little Chinese along the way. They got TikTok back the next day.

0:36:13 - (Hailey Brooks): What really got me, though, was Cap Cut. I was. I. My life shattered to a point where I was like, I don't know if I should use Cap Cut anymore because my life shattered so much when I lost it that I. I need to. I need some time away.

0:36:25 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah.

0:36:25 - (Tawni Nguyen): It was so bad. The thing I. That came to mind when you're like, show. When the Chinese are like, show me your dogs and your cats. I'm like, oh, my God.

0:36:31 - (Hailey Brooks): They want to see. They're eating. They're eating the dogs. They want to see your dinner. Yeah. What you got? We haven't tried that one yet. Husky. That's new.

0:36:40 - (Dave Burlin): The only thing would be funny if they showed them, like, a horse. And they're like, because they've never seen a horse.

0:36:47 - (Hailey Brooks): What?

0:36:48 - (Tawni Nguyen): Horse speed is not that good.

0:36:50 - (Dave Burlin): No, I'm just saying if they just showed them that, like, these are our dogs. These are our dogs and cats. And then they would just be super confused. Like, our life is a lie. Because they're. Their content's probably right. Speculated.

0:37:02 - (Hailey Brooks): I mean, probably. I mean. Oh.

0:37:04 - (Tawni Nguyen): Because we're not. Speculation.

0:37:05 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. We can say whatever we want. Blurs out the name of an app.

0:37:13 - (Tawni Nguyen): Thanks for being the last episode.

0:37:14 - (Hailey Brooks): You know what?

0:37:15 - (Tawni Nguyen): This is a good farewell tour.

0:37:17 - (Hailey Brooks): It's been my honor.

0:37:18 - (Dave Burlin): She's our. She's our John Orlando.

0:37:22 - (Hailey Brooks): John.

0:37:23 - (Dave Burlin): Huh?

0:37:23 - (Hailey Brooks): John.

0:37:24 - (Dave Burlin): Do you know John?

0:37:24 - (Hailey Brooks): No.

0:37:25 - (Tawni Nguyen): Oh, I do have a couple comedians on my show.

0:37:27 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah. John was on the first season the whole time. I was just like, I don't know if we could play this.

0:37:34 - (Tawni Nguyen): And I was like, yeah, carry on. You know, I'm like, poor G. He's been on my show before, like, blowing it up. I had my friend Lana come on, and she. Yeah, I know Lana.

0:37:45 - (Hailey Brooks): You know, backwards.

0:37:46 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah, Y. Backwards.

0:37:49 - (Hailey Brooks): That's Lana.

0:37:50 - (Tawni Nguyen): You know, we swapped it before, too, so it's kind of like she was like, I don't know what the vibe is, but she was just going off on, like, she's been canceled.

0:37:58 - (Hailey Brooks): She's. Her whole Instagram has been taken down.

0:38:01 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah.

0:38:01 - (Tawni Nguyen): And she was. She wanted to host this roasting, and she was like, please come support me.

0:38:04 - (Hailey Brooks): Blah, blah.

0:38:05 - (Tawni Nguyen): And she was like, it's at 9:30. I'm like, 9:30 on a school night?

0:38:07 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah. No, she was like, the best comedy show in town is The Dirty at 12:30. Hands down, best comedy shows.

0:38:15 - (Dave Burlin): Is that at Dre S?

0:38:16 - (Hailey Brooks): It's not at Dre S, but Dre.

0:38:18 - (Tawni Nguyen): Ass was so funny. Wait, you guys South Point.

0:38:20 - (Hailey Brooks): Yes, south point. Fridays, 12:30. But back to Dre Ass, because they took. Okay, you guys know Vegas nightlife, right? So Dre's After Hours is now a comedy club.

0:38:31 - (Tawni Nguyen): Oh, yes. Is that comedy?

0:38:34 - (Hailey Brooks): Listen. Well, I haven't been yet. I have not been yet. But they do have good names.

0:38:38 - (Dave Burlin): Are you still 86?

0:38:39 - (Hailey Brooks): I'm not 86. I've done questionable things at Dre's. I have been kicked out of Dre's Light nightclub. Was.

0:38:43 - (Dave Burlin): No one's ever been 86. From there.

0:38:46 - (Hailey Brooks): Not 86, but you could be escorted out.

0:38:49 - (Dave Burlin): They'll ask you to leave, but you.

0:38:51 - (Hailey Brooks): Can always, always come back. Always come back. I have a couple wings. Oh, wigs.

0:38:58 - (Tawni Nguyen): Oh, phenomenal.

0:38:59 - (Hailey Brooks): I'll do it. I'll Bachelorette.

0:39:02 - (Tawni Nguyen): That could be a whole show. Wigs and wings.

0:39:05 - (Hailey Brooks): Wigs and wings. I saw Alex Earl was in Vegas this past week, and they all wore a bunch of wigs so that nobody would recognize them and they could just, like, fit in.

0:39:12 - (Tawni Nguyen): Let's fucking do that.

0:39:14 - (Dave Burlin): There's so many things we can do. I'm down.

0:39:16 - (Hailey Brooks): That's why I love Vegas. There's so many things to do. But why are we acceptable?

0:39:19 - (Dave Burlin): I'm curious.

0:39:19 - (Hailey Brooks): Curious where? Oh, to the show. I just haven't been yet to Dry Ass. Dry Ass.

0:39:27 - (Dave Burlin): You can't wear those. What is it?

0:39:29 - (Tawni Nguyen): Turtleneck?

0:39:30 - (Dave Burlin): No, the shoes.

0:39:31 - (Hailey Brooks): Oh. Guess what? This is what I was going to get to. So my former party hosting friend came into town this week, and I was like, I have some disturbing news for you. The young kids all wear sneakers to the nightclub.

0:39:42 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah.

0:39:42 - (Hailey Brooks): Is that not affecting you? I'm sorry.

0:39:44 - (Dave Burlin): That should be crazy. They just get in.

0:39:45 - (Hailey Brooks): But, like, it used to be a thing.

0:39:46 - (Dave Burlin): Like when I went and I was like, I can get in with Air Force ones, right?

0:39:50 - (Hailey Brooks): No, no, you can now. You can. But at the time, I remember, like, if there was a girl not wearing heels, I would, like, stand really close to, like, try and hide the fact that they're not wearing heels or like, things like that. And now they're just. Dude, they have like. I went to Omnia and they were like, oh, like, open bar for women. Like, just like, just. Yeah, just like, hey, please come here. Please come in.

0:40:08 - (Hailey Brooks): It's really sad. I used to thrive in the nightlife, and now it's like, it's. It's. People don't want to pay thousands of dollars for bottles anymore. Imagine that.

0:40:17 - (Tawni Nguyen): Yeah.

0:40:17 - (Hailey Brooks): It.

0:40:18 - (Tawni Nguyen): Costs of drugs has gone up. The cost of.

0:40:20 - (Dave Burlin): The cost of drugs have stayed the same. Well, no, there's like, if you watch any. I'm not even gonna say it. We're gonna.

0:40:28 - (Tawni Nguyen): Please enlighten us.

0:40:29 - (Dave Burlin): Edit that out. Yeah, I was watching a thing on Netflix. I think it was Netflix, and it was like, the price of a gram of cocaine has not changed since 1980.

0:40:40 - (Tawni Nguyen): But people's need for more of it.

0:40:42 - (Dave Burlin): Oh, yeah, but they're cutting it with more and more.

0:40:45 - (Hailey Brooks): So now instead of doing one gram.

0:40:46 - (Tawni Nguyen): You'Re doing like four.

0:40:47 - (Dave Burlin): But no, it's like inflation and, like, the price of drugs almost never change, especially for the ones like that, because that way people will always continue to do it.

0:40:57 - (Tawni Nguyen): So you gotta keep the addiction going.

0:40:58 - (Hailey Brooks): Yeah, yeah, yeah.

0:41:00 - (Tawni Nguyen): It's like the price of insurance, you know, slowly climb it up.

0:41:04 - (Hailey Brooks): Insurance. Insurance scam.

0:41:06 - (Tawni Nguyen): I found a trigger word pack.

0:41:09 - (Hailey Brooks): Let's insurance, healthcare, that whole thing.

0:41:12 - (Dave Burlin): So what's next for you? You've got the weekly right now. And then anything big that's brewing or.

0:41:19 - (Hailey Brooks): Always things that brewing. Yeah, you're just always ready to the bruin. Yeah. But right now, Silent But Deadly is my. My big project right now. So Weekly Fridays at Area 15. Audience wears headphones come. And so we call it an immersive comedy experience. There are a few other spots across the country. It's like, literally, like one or two other ones that I know of that do it in that way. Some people did it during COVID but it's definitely. It's very interesting because it's humbling for the comedians because it's like you feed off that laughter, and when you have the headphones on, like, you don't hear it as much. So I encourage people to, like, laugh as loud as they can, and we do other things, and it's super where, like, people can get all up in your face and roam the room. It's a lot of fun. So Silent But Deadly is my big one. I emcee a lot of the local sports nights. I just did thrill. I'm gonna be doing a Desert Dogs game and I have trivia that I host as well, so that's a lot of fun.

0:42:07 - (Hailey Brooks): But, yeah, there's a couple things of Brewin, so just make sure you follow me along on my Instagram, because that's where I post.

0:42:13 - (Dave Burlin): Yeah.

0:42:15 - (Hailey Brooks): On Instagram, because I'm wildly confusing on Instagram. It's. Haley Brooks is here on TikTok, where I'm gonna be posting more again. I kind of took a. A. I took a. I took a little breather from TikTok and then they took it away from us, and I was like, no, I'd be really sad if they took away. So I'm gonna go back over to TikTok. Haley's happy hour on TikTok.

0:42:32 - (Tawni Nguyen): Guys, thanks for tuning in. Hopefully you got a last out of it. Please slide into our DMs. We're very approachable.

0:42:37 - (Hailey Brooks): Not mine. Maybe not mine, but they are mine. They're not friendly place. I'll put you on my story. I do that.

0:42:44 - (Tawni Nguyen): If we could connect you with anyone in this town, please feel free to reach out. Follow us at at Pursue Vegas all over social media. Our website is Pursue Vegas. It's probably the same thing, right?

0:42:55 - (Dave Burlin): Pretty much, yeah.

0:42:55 - (Hailey Brooks): You got smart. You should just keep the same. Just keep all your socials the same.

0:42:59 - (Dave Burlin): Percy, Vegas is here, but not on TikTok.

0:43:02 - (Hailey Brooks): You guys aren't on TikTok.

0:43:04 - (Dave Burlin): We were. It disappeared.

0:43:06 - (Hailey Brooks): It's back.

0:43:07 - (Dave Burlin): Like. No, no. Like it disappeared. Like a year ago. It just disappeared. So I gotta refix it. Yeah, we'll do it.

0:43:12 - (Hailey Brooks): It's 11:11.

0:43:13 - (Dave Burlin): Make a way TikTok. The idea of Pursue Vegas was to really highlight the local people that really make Vegas Vegas.

0:43:23 - (Tawni Nguyen): I love that aspect of how these visionaries are actually bringing people together.

0:43:28 - (Dave Burlin): When we hit record, our responsibility is to connect the people of our city so we can show the world who we really are.
